Facilities and Infrastructure
MarBEC is a multi-institutional and multi-disciplinary center. The participants in the Center not only represent researchers and students from the two participating institutions, but also a wide variety of departments and colleges. MarBEC also hosts visiting scientists and engineers from other institutions within and outside the US.
Advice
and guidance on industrial interests in MarBEC is provided by the Industrial
Advisory Board (IAB). The IAB is the prime link between MarBEC and industry.
The IAB provides input into the linkages between MarBEC and industry,
including intellectual property agreements, directions of research, and
the continuing development of the strategic plan.
Research objectives and directions are developed through a team effort. Each of the three thrust areas, Marine Bioresources, Production Systems, and Downstream Processing has a thrust leader responsible for the accomplishments and deliverables of each thrust.
The MarBEC organizational chart (left) outlines the flow of responsibilities within MarBEC and the MarBEC reporting chart outlines the oversight and reporting lines of MarBEC to the University.
The administrative offices for the Marine Bioproducts Engineering Center (MarBEC) at the University of Hawaii are located in the first floor of the Hawaii Institute of Geophysics (HIG) building on the University of Hawaii campus. MarBEC researchers in the departments of oceanography, civil engineering, ocean and resources engineering, and chemistry are located nearby.
The MarBEC administrative office at UCB is located in Gilman Hall, beside Tan and Latimer Halls where MarBEC research is performed.
Facilities
MarBEC research faculty and their laboratories are distributed among collaborating departments located in nearby buildings at the University of Hawaii Manoa campus. Some participating faculty members have laboratories at Coconut Island (about 12 miles from campus) and at Look Laboratory (about 8 miles from campus).
